Pierced Ears

After much discussion, Rob and I agreed that AP could get her ears pierced for her 5th birthday. We finally picked a free weekend and she took the plunge. She did FANTASTIC!

During the car ride to the mall, Miss Brooklyn expressed interested in getting her ears done. I was FLOORED. Brooklyn is a 100% our homebody and very timid to try new things. She didn't even want to get her face painted at the egg hunt or pancake breakfast. Rob was not in favor, but I told him that most likely she would self select out once she saw big sis get them done. However, Miss B had other plans. She kept saying my turn after AP and showed no hesitation at all. I even thought she would back down once she sat on the stool. Again, this was 100% a surprise to all of us. Enjoy the video of our sweet B. Please note, after five minutes later she was happy as a clam.

  1. Love reading your blog and adventures of your family. Read where your 5 year and her 3 yr old sister unexpectedly wanted her ears pierced too. Both girls look adorable with little earrings.

Your story reminded of a funny experience when we had our 6 yr old ears pierced and an incident where she took one of my pearl stud earrings from my jewelry box. One day, my hubby calls out to me from the family room asking me to come in there. Sandi had gotten a pair of my earrings and was
trying to put them in both her 3 yr old sister, Missy and Allison, her 2 month old baby sister's ears! She almost put one in her ear canal of the baby! Asked her why, and she said, "...Missy wanted "earwigs" like mine. Dh laughed and told me, P-L-E-A-S-E take the girls and get them BOTH pierced before we had to take one or both to the ER or to remove an earring! Curiously, I asked, "...are
your sure you want our 2 month old baby to have pierced ears too?" Rick responded yes, they'll all look cute with earrings and we won't have to worry about a play accident.

Like our older daughter, Sandi, we were going to wait to have the younger girls ears pierced when they asked too. However, I thought two months was too young, however, after talking with our ped, surpringly, she encouraged me to go ahead and have Missy and baby Allison done at the same time.

She gave encouraged me to do the baby too saying it was always better when mommy cares for them during the healing phase. After talking about it, I couldn't come up with a good reason to wait.

Well, all three of my girls have pierced ears and look adorable with little earrings. Having Missy's ears pierced was no problem and Allison barely whimpered. Don't know if you ever thought about doing the baby, however, after talking with our ped, I began seeing more babies at this age with pierced ears. When I called Piercing Pagoda where Sandi had hers done, the manager said they started at 2 months and actually, "earlier was better" since they don't play with them and just grow up with earrings thinking its a part of them. Times sure have changed, but I found caring for them was easy.

This Easter, I put pearls in all my girls and wore mine of course too. Best part was watching the girls stare at the mirror saying "pretty!"

Don't know if you'd ever considered doing your youngest as an infant, however, just wanted to share my funny story how all my girls got their ears pierced. Promise now your oldest two girls have earrings, they both may get the same idea about their baby sister needing earrings too!

Know is sounds early at 2-3 months, however, promise you'll begin to see more babies with earrings too, and might agree with me all your girls will look pretty with earrings.
