Enjoy some Baby Schab updates below...
I PASSED!
Last Friday, I had my three hour glucose test and found out yesterday I passed! Thank the lord! Even though I heard it isn't uncommon to fail the first time, I didn't want to take the easy road/attitude going into the test. I worked really hard to eliminate extra carbs/sugar and load up on more protein. I ordered eggs each morning and ate turkey burgers (no roll) at night. Even though I passed, I am going to still try and incorporate more protein in my diet. So for those who may not be familiar with how the three hour test works, let me enlighten your day with the fun I got to experience...
I had to show up to the lab at 7AM (let me point out I don't have to be at work until 8:30AM) so it was a really fun way to start my day. I had to fast for about 12 hours prior to the test, so I was feeling a bit faint driving in. I work better in tough situations when I can breakdown each step and almost form a countdown for myself. So in total, 6 steps separated me and the door to freedom. Step #1: finger prick (I was actually dreading this part the most and started to feel a little uneasy when the nurse had to ask another nurse for assistance...) Step #2: Blood Draw #1 Step #3: Drink the orange liquid (equivalent to 2 1/2 paper cups and tastes like flat orange soda). After these three steps, I went to the "tolerance" room where I would wait for one hour. At this point, wasn't feeling the best, I was starving and a bit tired. Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira from the Today Show kept me company for the first hour. After the timer went off, Step #4: Blood Draw #2 and back to the tolerance room for another hour. Mamma Summers kept me entertained on the phone for the next hour. Step #5: Blood Draw #3 and back to the room for the last hour, where I watched Bringing Home Baby on TLC. Step #6: Blood Draw #4 (same nurse who needed help with the finger prick tried a different arm and couldn't find the vein/get the blood), so technically on to Step #7: Blood Draw #5....DONE!
Nursery Updates
My dear husband always has to be kept busy (his choice). Despite the fact her nursery was completed, he felt the need for another 'project.' So that brings us to Rob's latest project, building a toy box for her room from scratch. It is about 80% done and looks adorable! I am not sure how he does it, but he was able to find wood scraps left over from other projects and put together a really cute toy box. He has to assemble the top and then it's done! I really love that he took on this project and it is something she can say, "My dad built this for me."
SURPRISEOver the past year, I was a volunteer for the youth group at the church I am a member at. The youth would meet every Sunday night for two hours and I would assist with their activities/discussions. It is a very small group (10 youth) and I had a wonderful time getting to know them. I let the Youth Pastor know that February would be my last month to volunteer and wanted to take March to 'prepare/take a rest' for Baby Schab. The youth would not be meeting next week and due to a trip to Long Island the following Sunday, this past Sunday was my last night. Imagine my suprise after when the Youth Pastor asked me to help her get items for the kitchen after their activity. SURPRISE! I was 100% shocked and blown away. They had pink cupcakes, snacks and even gifts. Each student brought a baby gift and everything was adorable. A few other church leaders also came out that night as well. It meant so much to me and Rob and I had a great time looking at alllll of the adorable items we were now blessed with. Baby Schab is one lucky lady!
